Race Day #1

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 1:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Yesterday was opening day at Oyster Bed Speedway. Robbie MacEwen was there with the #40 Modified sporting his new blue and orange paint scheme.

Although Robbie didn't end up in victory lane yesterday, he had some great finishes considering his car was not performing to 100%. He finished 3rd and 4th in his heat and semi race. Brake problems troubled Robbie in the feature but he was able to hang on for a 2nd place finish.

A special thank you to the 2012 MacEwen Motorsports team for their help preparing the race car and assistance at the track.

After the races were over yesterday the annual demolition derby was held. Doug MacEwen was participating this year. He held on strong and finished in 2nd place. Here is a before and after picture.

The next race is on Sunday, June 3rd at 2pm. Hope to see everyone there.

Welcome to 2012

Hey everyone. Welcome to the 2012 race season. MacEwen Motorsports is gearing up for probably the most challenging year in its history.

Robbie MacEwen will be racing once again in the Modified series at Oyster Bed Speedway. There will be many changes in the pit stall of the #40. A new paint scheme will be the most noticeable. Pictures to be posted soon. Robbie's long time crew chief will not be with us full time as he has moved to western Canada. This will bring new challenges as other crew members will have to step up and fill some very knowledgable boots. As everyone knows, we lost a very special crew member in October, Reagh George, so there will be heavy hearts this year during the race season as we miss our crew member and dear friend.

Anyone wishing to sport a #40 sticker on their vehicle please visit the pit stall throughout the summer and speak to Robbie regarding this.

Only 48 more sleeps until the season opener at Oyster Bed Speedway. The race schedule is posted under the calendar section of the website. Not incuded in the calendar is the races that Robbie will be attending throughout the year at Centre For Speed in Shediac, New Brunswick.

Don't forget to keep checking back for new updates and pictures. And remember, you can always follow us on twitter throughout the race season for live updates.

Thanks

Gracie :)

Triumph & Tragedy

MacEwen Motorsports attended the stock car banquet this past Saturday night. Robbie picked up the award for finishing 1st in the chmpionship standings. He gave a small speech thanking his crew, his girfriend, and his family. Unfortunately, the evening was bittersweet when news came Sunday morning on the passing of Reagh George, a friend and vital crew member of Robbie's race team. Reagh was a great asset to the team. He was always there to help and lend a hand when needed. He was a joy to be around and brought out the best in everyone. MacEwen Motorsports is deeply saddened by the loss of Reagh. He will be forever in our hearts and always in our memories. RIP Reagh. :(

Hi everyone.

Even thought racing had wrapped up at Oyster Bed Speedway for the season, it didn't mean MacEwen Motorsports was done racing. Centre For Speed held their annual Atlantic Championships the weekend of October 8th and 9th.

Saturday

Doug MacEwen was racing in the #40 Street Stock. In the qualifying race he finished a solid 2nd but during the feature he finished 21st due to a mechanical failure.

Sunday

Robbie MacEwen was racing in the #40 Modified Sportsman. He was able to finish 1st in the qualifying race securing a front row position for the 100 lap feature. Robbie led almost all of the 78 laps he completed when a broken rotor caused him to be unable to finish. He placed 5th.

 Awards Banquet

The annual Oyster Bed Speedway awards banquet is being held on Saturday, October 29th at the APM Center in Cornwall. Pictures to follow.

A huge congratulations and thank you to Team #40 for all their hardwork and dedication this year on and off the track. Thank you to Josh Morrison, crew chief. And thank you Robbie for being the clean and consistant driver all year that we loved to watch race week in and week out.

Next up is the Atlantic Championships in Shediac, NB at Centre For Speed. Robbie wil be racing in the Modified Sportsman 100 race on Sunday, October 9th.

In Race 1  Robbie was able to snag a 2nd place finish after 2 competitors had an incident with only a few lapsto go. In Race 2  Robbie was again able to finish in 2nd place. Going into the feature, the last race, Robbie needed to finish 8th place or better to win the championship. Throughout the year, Robbie has only had 2 feature races where he finished worse than 8th place. Today was no different. He finished in 6th place capturing the 2011 Modified Championship.

Points Standings Entering the Night: 2nd (13 points out of the lead)

This was the last 0 lap feature race of the Super Series. In Race 1 Robbie was challenging Kent Livingston for the lead in turns 3 and 4 and ran high accumulating some dirt and debris on his tires. They took the white flag and then because of the dirt Robbie ended up spinning in turn 2. Robbie ended up finishing 4th. In Race 2 Robie ran a strong race finishing 2nd. In the feature the class was able to qualify for starting position. Robbie nabbed the pole position. At the beginning of the race, first lap, turn 2, Robbie got bumped from behind and was spun out.  The restarted him at the back. He fought a tough race with a car that was not up to its usual standards. Robbie ended up finishing 4th.

Next Race: Monday, September 5th at 2pm

Points Standings Entering the Night on August 13th: 4th

Points Standings Entering the Night on August 20th: 3rd

Well Robbie MacEwen has come a long way since the last update.

On August 13th, Robbie brought home the checkered flag in all 3 races. He had a rough time in practice earlier in the day but was able to rally back to win all of the races.

On August 20th, Robbie once again raced in dominant fashion by winnng his first two races making him have won 5 races in a row. In the feature Robbie lead almost the whole race. On a restart with 4 laps to go, Robbie was overtaken by the points leader but still managed to secure a second place finish.

After all these consistant finishes, the word on the street is that Robbie is no 13 points out of the lead for the championship.

July 23rd & August 6th Results

Points Standings Entering the Night on July 23rd: 3rd

Points Standings Entering the Night on August 6th: 4th

I apologize for I have been slacking...AGAIN!!!

On July 23rd, races were cancelled halfway through due to rain therefore Robbie only completed one race. In that race he finished 7th due to spinning out on the backstretch in the final laps.

On August 6th, Robbie had a night that began great and ended badly. In Race 1 he started third and finished third. In Race 2 he started third and was finished 2nd. The car appeared to be much faster in this race. In the Feature Robbie was able to manouver his car from the back up to the 1st place position. There were numerous cautions and restarts but with only 3 laps to go, Robbie was hit on the right rear which caused a spring to break and busted his brake line. With no brakes, he ended up hitting the wall slightly in turn 4 and was unable to finish the race.

Lets all cross our fingers that some good luck starts to roll Robbie's way.

Next Race: Saturday, August 13th at 7:00pm

Gracie :)
